Evening Skincare Routine Step-by-Step

Evening Skincare Routine Step-by-Step

This evening we will be going over our recommended evening skincare routine.

A routine that is gentle to the skin and to the senses, to bring the focus back to us as we get ready for bed.

After a day full of work, children, maybe concerns of all different sorts, we want to relax for a few minutes, and bring some joy to the end of our day, giving importance and care to our body. We want to slow down and really be present while we are focusing and enjoying what we are doing.

We offer a simple routine which will make us feel like in a SPA, with aromatherapeutic benefits, which are benefits coming from the aromas used in our products, and that will aid both the skin as well as relax the mind.

The steps we will go over:

  • We will start a gentle oil cleansing with the help of our GoodOils Cleansing Oil.
  • Then tone our skin with AcquaDiRosa Balancing Mist.
  • Then we will use our FranChouliPom Nourishing Facial Serum, which has been developed for dry to maturing skin types.
  • We will finally use our ArganShea Multitasking Cream as an overnight treatment mask.

    What equipment will we need.

      • Use a headband to keep your hair pulled back, so your hair will not get in the way during the ritual.
      • We will need lukewarm water and a cotton towel or muslin cloth, preferable in organic cotton.
      • For the toning step, we need some cotton wool, and then just a small spatula, and our clean hands.
      • If you wish to make the space more welcoming, you can even use a candle, some music in the background, or anything that can help you relax. Feel as if you are entering a SPA room, and let the mind relax.

        Ritual step-by-step

            What the ritual is for.

The evening skincare ritual is meant to cleanse the skin deeply. During the day, we could have come across pollutants, and generally our skin gets dirty both from sweat, dust, and other external agents, so the pores tend to get clogged. Therefore, we want to make sure we don’t go to sleep with dirty skin. Overtime, the skin can get dull, so we want to keep it healthy and naturally glowing overtime, and one way to achieve this is to never go to sleep without having cleansed the skin thoroughly with these 3 steps, as each step has its meaning and importance.

            Step 1: Cleansing.

GoodOils Cleaning Oil is an oil cleanser that has been formulated to cleanse the skin using the oil-cleansing method.

What we do, is to use a few pumps worth of oil and massage it well with both hands, on dry skin.

Massage in circular motions, and upward. Also massage the neck if you wish, in upward motions.

The massage can last as long as you wish, from a few seconds all the way to a few minutes. If you feel particularly indulging, and in need for that extra self-care, then keep massaging.

Just avoid getting it inside the eyes.

When you feel like you are done, use a warm wet cloth to wipe it all off.

Castor oil and camellia have amazing cleansing properties. Their comedogenic factor is low, so they don’t clog the pores. Argan, jojoba, and camellia help soften dry skin.

Roman chamomile is very soothing and calming. Overall, this product is simple and gentle, and it is really meant to do the cleansing job.

I recommend using this cleansing oil no more than once a day, and perhaps in the evening, when you need it the most. If you prefer to use other types of cleansers, perhaps you might still introduce an oil cleanser at least once a week.

The oils have the ability to emulsify dirt and grime, which will come off together with the oil itself. I have called this product GoodOils, as when we use it, we are getting rid of dirty sebum, replenishing it with good, clean, pure oils. This product is also certified organic as well as cruelty-free and vegan.

(Unlike more recent ways of cleansing the skin, such as cream or gel cleansing, the oil cleanser does not have any water, therefore, when formulating it, there was no need to use preservatives in this cleanser. In addition, having no water, meant having no need for emulsifiers either. Emulsifiers are the ones that combine waters with oils. This meant that I could have a cleansing product that was 99% organic and 100% natural, which is extremely hard to achieve. On the downside, not too many people are used nowadays to using an oil-cleanser, so we need to give a bit of training, and that’s why we are here to help.)

The skin is now ready to be toned.

            Step 2: Toning.

AcquaDiRosa Balancing Mist is a pure certified organic rose water from Bulgaria, which comes from the distillation of Bulgarian rose petals. It is an extremely gentle toner, and I recommend it also to those who have problem or sensitive skin. It has a very gentle and soothing scent of roses.

This water comes as a mist that you can at any time spray directly on your face and body, and it does not have the addition of any other ingredients.

AcquaDiRosa is how we call rose water in Italy.

We use this on any skin type, and in the evening I recommend spraying it directly on a cotton wool, and gently massaging the skin with the cotton wool instead. This way, the excess dirt and make up will be trapped in the wool. Step 2 of our 1-2-3 steps is very important to rebalance the skin’s PH and get it ready for the next step. Water has a PH of around 7, which is higher than the skin’s natural PH of around 5-6. When we use skincare products, we should use ones that pretty much match our skin’s PH. As you notice, if we just wash the face with water and don’t use anything else, after a short while we feel like the skin starts pulling, and this is because the PH of the skin has not been rebalanced. So, in the morning for instance, the use of a moisturiser with the correct PH is very important.

We have prepared the skin for the next step.

Step 3: Moisturising using a night oil or serum.

In the evening we need something more potent than water-based moisturisers, to nourish and penetrate the skin at a deeper level, as well as give it back the good fatty acids, vitamins and minerals it so much craves for. We also need to re-balance sebum production, and we can achieve this by using oil-based products. I recommend the water-based moisturiser instead in the morning, as its purpose is to hold moisture on the skin for a longer period of time.

In the evening, right after the rose water, in order to lock the moisture in right away, we apply FranChouliPom Nourishing Facial Serum, an oil-based serum for dry to maturing skin types. If you have oily or combination skin, I would recommend our Herbs&Trees Balancing Facial Serum instead.

You just need a few drops, say 3 to 6 drops to massage with your hands on neck and face. Start with a few, and then work your way up if you feel the need for more drops. Again, upwards circular movements.

I would stop several times to inhale the serum as well, as its aromatherapeutic benefits will help the mind as well.

This is such a beautiful product. Frankincense helps regenerate cells. It is a distilled resin that comes from the bark of the Boswellia Neglecta tree. Pomegranate seed oil is full of anti-oxidants, so has anti-ageing properties. All the oils in this product are high in vitamins and good fatty acids, it contains argan, camellia, jojoba, as well as natural vitamin E.

            Step 4: Overnight treatment mask.

I would also like to talk about a fourth product for our evening skincare routine. This is not part of the 1-2-3 steps, but it can either replace step 3 entirely or it can be used as an overnight treatment mask once or twice a week. It is our ArganShea Multitasking Cream, which is a real multi tasker. We take a small amount using the spatula provided, or any other clean spatula that you might want to use. Then apply it with our hands massaging it liberally on the skin. Once again, pause to inhale it for its aromatherapeutic benefits. The calendula and shea have rejuvenating properties and the blend of essential oils helps rebalance and regenerate the skin.

Then now we are ready for bed. I would recommend this ritual right before we go to sleep for maximum benefits.

            To conclude.

All 4 products shown are certified organic and as organic as they can possibly be, ranging 99% to 100% organic, as well as fully natural. Organic means more nourishing for the skin, as well as the anti-oxidizing properties are many times more powerful. The products are also vegan and cruelty-free approved.
